Review:
Denzel Washington and Eva Mendes team up once again (Training Day) in
another highly touted thriller. This time around Eva Mendes plays a
detective who's divorcing Matt Lee Whitlock (Denzel Washington). Although
Eva Mendes is absolutely beautiful its kind of disappointing to see her play
the same role over and over again. She was a cop/detective in three highly
anticipated movies this year: Out of Time, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and Once Upon a
Time in Mexico. To a certain extent it really takes away from the appeal of
this movie and more or less normalizes the emotions of the film.
This film does a good job of keeping up the suspense throughout the film
and creates a situation where you really begin to root for Denzel
Washington's character to overcome his obstacles and get back together with
Eva Mendes (ex-wife). The setting and characters of the film and its
characters make the plot more realistic. Denzel Washington convincing
portrays an easygoing but gullible police chief in a laid-back Florida
backwater Another nice thing this film does is utilize many different types
of problems to keep the film (Money, terminally ill cancer, Life Insurance,
Double Homicide) flowing well and an even better job of tying everything
together at the end of this flick.
The only shortfall of this movie is the ending. Without giving away the
ending I will say it is more suited for a made for TV movie rather than a
box office movie. The director of the film forgets the difference of box
office films and television movies and dramas. Although CSI (Crime Scene
Invesitigation) is one of my favorite televisions dramas, the ending for
this flick is not even up to par with this TV show.
See this movie if you're a fan of:

Pelican Brief, John Q)
