wars.
Review:
Although the premise of this Martin Campbell flick is honorable and
uplifting enough it just becomes a sad piece of irony. The whole movie is
based on the unfortunate people/children in third world countries who are in
dire need of vaccination and food. But in the movie the Western world isn't
interested in supporting these offshoot relief programs. The ironic part is
most box office patrons won't care much about this movie either. Following a
similar plotline to Tears of the Sun (another box office flop) this
Angelina Jolie thriller fails to garner an audience due to its reliance on
getting sympathy for its setting and plotline.
The only unfortunate part of this movie is that it cost nearly 35 million
to make. Personally I feel the actual feeding of people in these desolate
nations would have been more productive. The movie is filled with clichés
but fails to go beyond them and/or tell riveting story. For one Angelina
Jolie plays the overly grateful wife who is sick of her life and is
searching for a sense of purpose. Secondly love story was so mundane that
you just have to laugh it off.
The acting is decent, but the characters, dialogue, and plot is not up to
par. The movie is reminiscent of Bad Company starring Chris Rock and
Anthony Hopkins. The premise was tolerable, but in the end you just felt
that the actors were much better than the material presented in the film.
See this movie if you're a fan of:
Tears of the Sun (2003)
I Dreamed of Africa (2000)
Angelina Jolie (Actress, Tomb Raider, Pushing Tin, Original Sin)
Martin Campbell (Director, Vertical Limit, Beyond Borders, Mask of Zorro,
Goldeneye)
