• Speaking out about the death of the seven astronaut crewmembers of the Space Shuttle Columbia, which broke up as it was re-entering the earth's atmosphere over Texas on Saturday (February 1): "During my training at Johnson Space Center I was fortunate enough to experience firsthand the professionalism and camaraderie of the NASA team. I am deeply saddened by this loss. I hope we can continue to explore the universe and move forward with the work of the Columbia crew and the dreams they pursued. I am praying for the families of these astronauts and for all of my friends at NASA. These men and women are true heroes."
