Summary:
Through the years we have watched Jim and his friends grow from
sex-starved high-schoolers at Great East Falls High into adults
ready to wreak havoc with a new rite of passage: Jim and Michelle are getting
married--in a hurry. With a sick grandmother who only has weeks to live, the
crew tries to put together the wedding of Michelle's dream, in two weeks. Stifler's
back for the Bridesmaids and, more importantly, to throw the ultimate
bachelor party. Finch competes with Stifler to steal the maid of honor, who happens to be
Michelle's sexy younger sister, Cadence. When nothing seems to go right, Jim's Dad is cool as ever, dispensing advice that no one wants to hear
and getting ready for one of the proudest days of his life.
Review:
Just when you thought there was no joke too low for this popular movie
franchise to stoop to, here comes American Wedding. But, this time around
there seem to be a few surprises. Seann William Scott gives an electrifying
performance as Steve Stifler and in the process almost overshadows Jason
Biggs portrayal of Jim Levinstein. Stifler's character in this gross-out
comedy matures and catalyzes upon meeting Cadence (January Jones), the sexy
sister of Michelle Flaherty. The original American Pie introduced a cast of
characters intent on portraying real-life high school teenagers through
crude and lewd humor. The second American Pie tried to capitalize on the
characters popularity but came off a little overblown by going off on many
tangents. But the third installment in this seemingly endless franchise
(like the National Lampoons) focuses on a smaller group of core characters
and effectively solidifies their roles in the process.
Not bringing back every popular character for the third installment
allowed the filmmakers and audience to effectively focus on the main point
of the movie, Jim and Michelle's wedding. But don't get me wrong as there is
no lack of comical subplots along the way.
Although the movie still fails to find the magic of the Original American
Pie, audiences will still walk away with more than a few good laughs from
this well-thought out motion picture.
